Police arrested a 60-year-old woman yesterday after her dog escaped from her home and bit a three-year-old child in Puchong.
Serdang police chief Farid Ahmad said the child’s grandmother filed a police report on the incident at about 8.10am on Wednesday.
“Preliminary investigations found that the woman did not possess a licence from the local authority to keep the dog,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The complainant and her grandchild were walking home from a playground in Taman Lake Edge when the German shepherd mix attacked and bit the child on the left thigh, causing serious injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code for negligence with respect to animals, punishable by imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Farid urged members of the public with information on the incident to contact the Serdang police headquarters at 03-8074222 or any nearby police station to assist in investigations.
