Two Hectares Fire Spread in Puncak Jalil

A fire that broke out on a hillside in Puncak Jalil near Seri Kembangan expanded significantly from the area initially detected earlier in the afternoon.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said that as of 9pm, the blaze had spread across more than two hectares.

“Firefighting efforts are still ongoing and currently involve 27 personnel,” he said in a statement.

He added that firefighters from Seri Kembangan Fire and Rescue Station, Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Station, Puchong Fire and Rescue Station, Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station and Penchala Fire and Rescue Station were involved in the operation, using six fire engines and three ambulances.

Ahmad Mukhlis said earlier reports from the operations commander indicated that the fire had initially started in a forested hillside area covering about 1.2 hectares.

He noted that no casualties were reported and no homes or commercial buildings were damaged in the incident.

The fire was first reported at 4.12pm and was initially believed to have affected around 0.3 hectares. However, firefighters later assessed the burned area to measure approximately 500 metres by 300 metres, which was divided into six sectors for firefighting operations.

“The nearest residential area is about 150 metres from the fire site, but a large drain separates the location from the homes,” he said.

He added that firefighters are currently creating a firebreak to stop the flames from spreading towards nearby residential areas.

The blaze was also visible to motorists travelling along the Kuala Lumpur–Putrajaya Expressway as it occurred beside the highway.
