Two friends arrested in drug bust, meth enough for 30,000 addicts seized

SEREMBAN: Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate following the arrest of two men and the seizure of RM1.56 million worth of methamphetamine, enough to supply 30,000 addicts.

The suspects, both in their 30s, were intercepted by police in a Perodua Bezza along the North-South Expressway near Rembau on Feb 12.

Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said a search of the car boot uncovered two plastic sacks, each containing 15 packets of Chinese tea.

"Further inspection led to the seizure of 30 packets containing 30,601g of crystalline substances suspected to be syabu (methamphetamine).

“This quantity could have supplied about 30,000 addicts and would have had a significant social impact if it reached the market,” he told a press conference.

Alzafny said the drugs are believed to have originated from Puchong, Selangor, for distribution in the southern market.

“Initial investigations revealed the syndicate has been active since 2025, targeting markets in the southern states,” he said.

The suspects, who are from the same village in Johor, have prior records for narcotics and possession of stolen goods. Both tested positive for methamphetamine and have been remanded.

“We believe other syndicate members are still at large,” Alzafny said.
