Three individuals, including a woman, have been charged in connection with a migrant smuggling case in Puchong involving 18 Myanmar nationals.
The accused appeared before the Sessions Court in Klang, where they acknowledged the charges but no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The alleged offence took place at an apartment in Pusat Bandar Puchong earlier this month.
Authorities stated that the group is believed to have smuggled the migrants into Malaysia through illegal routes before transporting them to the Klang Valley. The case is being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, which carries severe penalties including imprisonment of up to 20 years, fines, or both.
Two additional suspects were not formally charged during the session due to language barriers and the need for an interpreter. All individuals involved are currently in custody, with no bail offered due to the seriousness of the offence.
The case highlights ongoing enforcement efforts by Malaysian authorities to combat migrant smuggling activities, particularly in urban areas like Puchong.
