Youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh said the revised contracts for women athletes had been enhanced to include eligibility for seven days of annual leave, seven days of emergency leave and seven days of paternity leave.

Youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh says the revised contract for female athletes allows them to continue training during pregnancy, as long as they are able to do so.

PETALING JAYA: The National Sports Council has removed a rule that required pregnant athletes to be dropped from training programmes, says youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh.

Yeoh said the contract for female athletes had been amended to drop the clause stating that those confirmed pregnant cannot undergo training, Bernama reported.

She said the revised contract now permits pregnant athletes to undergo training, provided they are able to do so.

“For example, the pregnant athlete may be an archer and her training is different compared to another athlete.

“So, the council will assess it case by case so that this clause becomes more woman-friendly,” she told reporters at the launch of Taska Team MAS at the National Sports Institute here today.

Yeoh said the contracts for women athletes had been enhanced to include eligibility for seven days of annual leave, seven days of emergency leave and seven days of paternity leave.

She said this aims to create a more supportive sports system for women athletes, making it easier for them to continue their careers even after starting a family.
