Selangor to Provide Free Meals for 70,000 SPM Candidates During 2026 Exams

Thousands of Form Five students across Selangor, including those in Puchong, are set to receive free meals during the upcoming 2026 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination period under a special initiative by the Selangor state government.

Announced by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on 6 November 2026, the initiative aims to ensure students have access to food before sitting for their examinations, helping them stay focused and motivated throughout this important period.

Key Details of the Initiative

  • Beneficiaries: Approximately 70,000 SPM candidates across Selangor.
  • Programme: Special NutriSel SPM 2026 initiative.
  • Main objective: Provide meals during the examination period so students do not have to sit for their papers on an empty stomach.
  • Implementation: The initiative is part of the wider Nutrisi Selangor (NutriSel) programme, introduced in August 2026.

Additional Food Assistance for Students

The state government is also expanding its nutrition support through the following initiatives:

  • Basic NutriSel Programme: Previously benefited 104,640 primary and secondary school students from B40 households.
  • Programme Allocation: More than RM12.5 million, comprising RM7.82 million contributed by local authorities and RM4.73 million from the Selangor Economic Planning Unit (UPEN).
  • Mega NutriSel: Distributing free bread and milk to approximately 993,670 pupils across 960 schools in Selangor.
  • Distribution Partners: Farm Fresh and Gardenia are collaborating with the state government on the wider food distribution initiative.
  • Distribution Period: The one-off bread and milk distribution is scheduled to continue until 6 or 7 November 2026.

Why This Matters to Puchong Families

For parents in Puchong with children preparing for SPM, this initiative is a positive step towards supporting students’ nutritional needs during an important examination period.

Providing meals can help ease some of the financial pressure on families while encouraging students to maintain healthy eating habits and avoid skipping breakfast before examinations.

Parents and students should also keep an eye on announcements from their respective schools for further information about meal distribution arrangements.

With examination stress already being a challenge for many teenagers, initiatives that support students’ basic needs can make a meaningful difference.

What do you think about Selangor providing free meals to SPM candidates? Do you think similar food assistance programmes should be extended to students from other examination levels as well?
