Selangor Seeks Greater Economic Value From Semiconductor Industry
Selangor is strengthening connections between chip designers, data centres, artificial intelligence (AI), mobility technology and system integrators as the state seeks to retain a larger share of the semiconductor industry’s economic value.
The issue was highlighted during Supply Chain Day, held at Four Points by Sheraton Puchong, where companies and industry stakeholders discussed opportunities to build stronger technology supply chains.
Moving Beyond Assembly and Testing
According to the report, Selangor wants to move beyond its traditional role in:
- Semiconductor assembly
- Testing
- Packaging
The state is placing greater emphasis on higher-value activities such as chip design, which can generate greater economic value and strengthen the local technology ecosystem.
Puchong’s Role in the Technology Ecosystem
Puchong is specifically highlighted through the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, which is part of Selangor’s effort to strengthen its semiconductor capabilities.
The event also brought together stakeholders from:
- Data centres
- IC design
- Automotive
- Robotics
- AI software
- System integration
This creates opportunities for local companies to connect with larger technology businesses and participate in emerging supply chains.
Why This Matters to Puchong
The development could strengthen Puchong’s position as a technology and business hub, potentially attracting more high-value technology companies, skilled jobs and supporting businesses to the area.
It also shows how Puchong’s semiconductor ecosystem is becoming connected to wider industries such as AI, data centres and advanced manufacturing.
What do you think — could Puchong become one of Selangor’s major technology and semiconductor hubs in the coming years?
