Selangor Police Bust Gang Impersonating Cops

PETALING JAYA, Nov 7 – Selangor police have made a major breakthrough by arresting ten men who allegedly impersonated police officers to rob motorcyclists of their personal items and motorcycles on highways and main roads in the state. The suspects, aged between 25 and 39, were apprehended in Petaling Jaya at 5 am on October 20. They included individuals working as tow truck drivers, deliverymen, and technicians.

State deputy police chief Datuk S. Sasikala Devi stated that these suspects conducted their crimes during nighttime and early morning hours, using two motorcycles to pose as police personnel. Their strategy involved stopping motorcyclists under the pretext of conducting inspections and then stealing their valuables and motorcycles.

The arrests led to the seizure of seven motorcycles. Preliminary investigations showed that seven of the suspects had a combined total of 26 prior criminal records, with 10 involving drug offenses. Additionally, two tested positive for drug use. These arrests have helped solve 10 robbery cases in Selangor, and the suspects are being investigated under Section 395/170 of the Penal Code.

In a separate case, police also dismantled the Bulat Gang by arresting three members aged 19 to 43 during “Op Lejang” conducted from October 21 to 25 in Jeram, Sungai Buloh. The operation resulted in the seizure of 14 motorcycles and the arrest of a foreigner who purchased a stolen Honda EX5 for RM150. Initial findings showed the gang scouted targets a day before their thefts, focusing on motorcycles parked on sidewalks and at apartments. This action resolved 13 motorcycle theft cases amounting to RM32,000 in losses.
