Selangor Targets 10,000 Visitors for Year of the Horse Celebration in Puchong
Selangor is targeting 10,000 visitors as it ushers in the Year of the Horse at Taman Rekreasi Wawasan, Puchong, on Feb 7, 2026, from 5pm to 10pm.
The celebration is jointly organised by the Selangor state government, Invest Selangor Bhd, and Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ).
State Executive Councillor for Investment, Trade and Mobility Ng Sze Han said the close cooperation between the three parties reflects their shared commitment to advancing economic development while fostering social harmony.
The event will be held ahead of Chinese New Year on Feb 17 to avoid overlapping with the start of Ramadhan, ensuring broader participation from all communities.
Puchong was selected as the venue to bring festivities closer to residents, in line with the state’s push for community-level engagement rather than concentrating major celebrations in city centres.
A key highlight this year is the introduction of the “Campur Beras” tradition, a unity-themed initiative that replaces the customary yee sang toss ceremony at the official table. The concept encourages community participation through rice contributions, which will later be redistributed as a symbol of shared blessings and unity among Selangorians.
Members of the public are invited to submit rice contributions to their local community service centres on or before Feb 3, 2026, in line with the programme’s “sharing prosperity” theme.
The programme begins with pre-show performances from 5.45pm to 6.45pm, featuring an orchestra blending Chinese cultural music and festive medleys, alongside dance and music performances such as “Jom Mamak”, percussion, Chinese dance “Bunga”, street dance and a live band.
The main show, running from 8.30pm to 9.35pm, will open with a dance titled The Herd of Synergy, followed by a brass band performance, a puppet-and-dance segment themed Dunia Bawah Air, a diabolo showcase, a lion dance and a choir performance.
Visitors can also enjoy a light projection show around the park, with projector technology transforming the recreation area into an illuminated experience.
For families, organisers will distribute 1,500 angpau packets to children aged 12 and below, as well as mandarin oranges for attendees. In addition, 5,000 small packets of rice will be given out as souvenirs, reinforcing the “Campur Beras” message of shared blessings.
Food will be served in two dinner sessions — the first at 5.45pm for 3,000 visitors, and the second at 8.30pm for 2,000 visitors.
On economic spillovers, Ng told The Malaysian Reserve that the focus is on ensuring benefits reach all levels of society. Beyond engaging a hotel caterer, organisers are also providing opportunities for local traders to operate during the event.
Ng added that bringing the celebration forward allows wider participation, including non-Chinese residents and Muslim communities ahead of Ramadhan.
“This is the best return in the social economy, because everyone can come together,” he said.
Visitors are encouraged to use e-hailing services or public transport, with Pusat Bandar Puchong, Puchong Prima and Puchong Perdana LRT stations identified as key access points. Other options include Bas Smart Selangor and Selangor’s Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) van service via the Rapid On Demand app.
Parking details will be announced once final arrangements are confirmed, as organisers continue preparations to ensure smooth crowd flow and visitor comfort.
