A long-time Puchong resident has called for a temporary halt to new development projects, citing worsening traffic congestion and growing environmental concerns caused by rapid urban expansion.
In a letter expressing frustration over the township’s growth, the resident claimed that large-scale land clearing and hillside development, including areas near Mutiara Indah Puchong, have proceeded with little public consultation, raising concerns about potential landslides and soil erosion.
The resident also voiced concerns over the alleged sale of land near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve, warning that continued development could reduce one of the area’s remaining green spaces.
Traffic congestion was highlighted as one of the biggest issues affecting daily life. According to the resident, commuters travelling from Bandar Bukit Puchong to Damansara can spend several hours on the road during peak periods, with severe congestion along the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) becoming a daily occurrence.
Among the proposals put forward were a moratorium on new development approvals until comprehensive traffic and environmental impact studies are completed, stronger protection of forest reserves and hillside areas, improved last-mile public transport, and the construction of a rail line running parallel to the LDP to better connect Puchong with Petaling Jaya.
The resident also called for more parks, walking paths, and green spaces, urging authorities to prioritise public safety, environmental sustainability, and residents’ quality of life as Puchong continues to grow.
The letter reflects growing concerns among some residents over balancing urban development with infrastructure capacity and environmental preservation.
