Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has addressed ongoing concerns surrounding a 168-acre land parcel in Permatang Kumbang, Puchong, clarifying that the site is not part of a permanent forest reserve and that its sale was carried out transparently.
Speaking to representatives from 14 residents’ associations alongside Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, Amirudin explained that the land near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve was de-gazetted as early as 1926, long before Malaysia’s independence. He attributed recent confusion to the spread of misinformation regarding the land’s status.
He also highlighted the site’s long and complex history. Initially approved in 1996 for low-cost housing, the project was later rejected due to unsafe terrain, with a large portion of the land classified as steep slopes unsuitable for development. Court decisions, including at the highest level, upheld the rejection and reinforced the position that the area should not be developed.
Addressing claims that the land was sold below market value, Amirudin noted that it was offered through an open tender process in 2012. The final sale price of RM101 million exceeded the independently assessed value, proving that the transaction was conducted above market rate.
The state government maintains that no development has been approved for the site, emphasizing that all past decisions were made through proper legal channels. The clarification aims to ease public concern and correct misconceptions surrounding the land in Puchong.
