Puchong Flood Mitigation Project Near Completion at 99%

A long-awaited flood mitigation project in Puchong is now 99% complete, bringing relief to residents affected by frequent flash floods along the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP).

According to Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, the remaining works mainly involve landscaping and minor touch-ups, which are expected to be completed within two weeks. Despite this, the upgraded drainage system is already operational and has shown positive results, with no flash floods reported in the past month.

The RM6.5 million project is a joint effort involving Subang Jaya City Council, Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat, and IOI Properties Group. Key upgrades include the installation of a larger box culvert designed to efficiently channel excess rainwater to a retention pond near IOI Mall Puchong, reducing the risk of overflow onto nearby roads.

One of the biggest challenges during construction was the complex pipe jacking process beneath the highway, due to numerous underground utilities. Additional delays were caused by restricted working hours and technical constraints at the site.

Once fully completed, the project is expected to significantly improve flood management in the area, offering better protection for both motorists and nearby communities.
