A major drug case linked to Puchong has concluded with the Court of Appeal Malaysia sentencing a former civil servant to 30 years in prison for trafficking and possession of cannabis.
The court upheld the conviction of Norazhar Mat, 55, for trafficking 48kg of ganja, ruling that there were no flaws in the prosecution’s case or breaks in the chain of evidence. Due to his age, he was spared caning. His co-accused, Faizul Azwad Ab Jalil, 46, will also serve 30 years and receive 14 strokes of the cane.
The offences took place in Bandar Sierra, where police caught the suspects transferring drugs between vehicles during an early morning raid. Authorities later uncovered additional cannabis at a nearby house, further strengthening the case.
In its decision, the court confirmed that both trafficking and possession sentences would run concurrently, meaning a total jail term of 30 years. The sentence will also be backdated to June 2020, the time of arrest, ensuring earlier credit for time already served.
The ruling highlights Malaysia’s strict stance on drug-related offences and reinforces ongoing enforcement efforts to combat trafficking activities.
