Concerns surrounding alleged development near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve in Puchong have been addressed following a dialogue session between state representatives and local residents.
The discussion involved 14 residents’ associations and was attended by Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, focusing on claims circulating about a 168-acre land parcel in Permatang Kumbang, Pusat Bandar Puchong. Authorities clarified that the land in question is not part of a permanent forest reserve, as it had been de-gazetted as early as 1926.
Officials also denied claims that any new development has been approved on the site. Historical records show that although the land was once earmarked for low-cost housing in the 1990s, development applications were rejected due to unsafe terrain, with 75% of the area classified as steep slopes unsuitable for construction. Court rulings, including at the Federal Court level, later upheld the decision to prohibit development.
On the issue of land value, authorities explained that the land was sold through an open tender process at RM101 million, which was above its evaluated market price at the time, countering allegations that it was undervalued.
The state government reiterated its stance that the land is not suitable for commercial or residential development due to safety concerns. Meanwhile, residents have proposed preserving access routes for hiking and recreational use, a suggestion that may be brought forward for further consideration.
