Police Bust Palm Oil Smuggling Ring, Two Men Arrested

PUCHONG: Authorities have dismantled a crude palm oil smuggling operation following a joint raid by the police’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

The operation, dubbed Op Sawit, was carried out on Friday and led by TEID Intelligence Operations head Assistant Superintendent Mohd Rizam Surani together with MPOB officers.

During the raid, enforcement teams uncovered a factory in Puchong where an estimated RM212,200 worth of crude palm oil and related equipment were seized.

TEID director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the case unfolded after officers spotted a suspicious lorry in Klang at around 4pm. The vehicle was tailed to the premises before action was taken.

Two men — a 36-year-old lorry driver and a 44-year-old caretaker of the premises — were arrested for allegedly possessing unlicensed palm oil products.

“This operation aims to clamp down on smuggling activities involving crude palm oil transported using commercial vehicles,” Yusri said.

The case is being investigated under Rule 5 of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (Licensing) Regulations 2005 and the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
