PUTRAJAYA: The installation of platform doors will be made a priority at all train station to prevent unwanted incidents, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke
He said such doors have already been installed at newer MRT stations as well as along the KL Monorail line.
“But they have not been installed yet at several stations along the Ampang LRT line. I have requested (service operator) Prasarana (Malaysia Berhad) to implement this.
“However, installing doors at all stations will incur major costs (and) additional budget is needed.
“We are making this a priority to enhance security at all stations,” he told a press conference at ministry headquarters here on Wednesday (June 4).
Asked if there was a timeline for the installation, the minister said Prasarana was making the necessary preparations.
“It all boils down to the budget,” he added.
Loke’s statement came after a foreign national died after falling onto the track at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station on Tuesday (June 3) evening.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said a team from the Subang Jaya fire station found the man unconscious under a carriage.
The victim, in his 60s, was confirmed dead at the scene and his body was handed over to the police for further action.
Rapid KL said train services between the Bandar Puteri, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Pusat Bandar Puchong and IOI Puchong Jaya stations were halted because of this.
On Wednesday, Loke said closed-circuit TV footage of the incident would be handed over to police for the investigation.
