The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has dismissed allegations that Malaysian citizens’ MyKad data is being sold on the dark web, citing the absence of supporting evidence.
Investigation Results
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) deputy director Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa confirmed that the CCID Cyber and Multimedia Crime Investigation Division found no proof to validate the claims. He emphasized that the CCID continues to monitor the situation and will take necessary action if any related police reports are lodged.
Government Assurance
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail reassured the public that investigations conducted by security agencies, including the National Registration Department (JPN), found the allegations to be baseless. He affirmed that the data security of MyKad is robust and reliable.
The Allegations
The claims originated from a user on the X-site (formerly Twitter), Fusion Intelligence Center (@StealthMole), who alleged that MyKad data had been leaked and sold on the dark web. The user further claimed that samples of MyKad were openly shared on these platforms.
Next Steps
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. The PDRM, alongside relevant agencies, will continue monitoring and investigating to ensure data security.
