Omaigod Puchong so empty!” — Netizens react as CNY balik kampung empties Klang Valley

With thousands travelling back to their kampung or heading overseas for the festive celebrations, the usual weekday congestion appears to have eased — at least for now.

A social media post observing that Sunway and Kajang felt “empty” this week quickly gained traction online, as many Selangor residents echoed the same experience.

“Selangor is this empty???

“Sunway is empty. Kajang is empty. I would savor this for this week,” one user called prettamalaysia wrote on Threads.

Sunway, known for its bustling commercial centres and student population, and Kajang, famous for its eateries and growing residential communities, are rarely described as quiet outside of major holidays.

But during the Chinese New Year festive break, the temporary migration out of the Klang Valley has created a noticeable lull — something residents say they are happily “savouring.”

Some even joked that the calm feels almost unreal compared to the usual daily traffic grind.

“Klang to Glenmarie in 20 mins on a Monday morning,” one user called thayshenaaa pointed out.

“Feels like I own the parking lot at the mall,” shasazzyz joked.

“Kajang to shah alam in 35mins, usually it will be 50-65mins hahaha,” imrrannhdii_ commented.

“Enjoy it while it last,” sherilyn_richard chimed.

“Omaigodddd Puchong is soooo emptyyyyy,” kxvi_priyx wrote.

“LEKAS was so freeeee today… wished it was like this everyday,” not_vidya commented.
