A disabled individual (OKU) faced significant challenges at the Puchong LRT station when a ticket gate malfunctioned, leaving them stranded. The situation worsened as no staff were present at the station during the incident to provide assistance.
The incident gained public attention after a video went viral on Instagram, showing the ticket gate’s touchscreen displaying “under maintenance” and the gate being non-operational.
According to the individual who recorded the video, the incident occurred at 11:25 PM, well before the station’s operational hours were scheduled to end at midnight.
No Staff Present, OKU Rely on Public Assistance
The person who noticed the situation immediately contacted the emergency number displayed at the station at 11:32 PM to report the issue and request help.
“I called again at 11:41 PM, urging them to send someone quickly,” they said.
Eventually, an auxiliary police officer arrived to assist the stranded individual. During the conversation, the OKU individual revealed that this was not the first time they had faced such difficulties. They shared previous experiences of being stuck in elevators multiple times while using the LRT service.
“I understand that everyone wants to go home early, but it’s frustrating to see a disabled person in need of help and no one around to assist them,” the individual expressed.
Authorities are urged to ensure staff are present until the end of operational hours to prevent similar situations from recurring.
