Four out of nine flood mitigation projects under the Subang Jaya City Council’s (MBSJ) “quick win” plan have been completed, with the remaining five expected to be finished by the end of this year or early next year.
Mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim announced this after chairing the MBSJ full board meeting at its USJ5 headquarters. He highlighted that one of the main areas of concern was the stretch in front of IOI Mall Puchong, which has a long history of flooding.
The mitigation project along the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) near IOI Mall Puchong was completed on Oct 29 at a cost of RM150,000.
“We hope that this project will finally put an end to flooding in the area,” he said.
This stretch has experienced multiple flood incidents in the past, with water overflowing from nearby monsoon drains and entering the mall’s premises, including parking areas. The last major incident occurred in December 2023.
Two other projects in Kampung Kenangan, Puchong, costing RM200,000 in total, were completed on Nov 12. Another RM200,000 project at Kampung Batu 14, Puchong, was completed on Nov 28.
Additional ongoing projects include:
- Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, Puchong (RM250,000) – expected completion: January next year
- Kampung Bukit Lanchong, Subang Jaya – expected completion: February next year
- Kampung Sri Aman Bestari, Puchong – expected completion: January next year
- Kampung Sri Puchong – expected completion: February next year
A tender has also been awarded for a new project at Taman Kembangsari in Seri Kembangan.
Amirul Azizan said the locations were chosen based on discussions between MBSJ and the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department, adding:
“We hope the completion of these projects will eliminate flooding and stagnant water issues across the city.”
