Maybank is discontinuing its MaybankPay app, that lets customers use their smartphones for contactless payment, starting July 20.
“Dear Valued Cardmembers, please be informed that our MaybankPay app will be discontinued effective 20th July 2020. However, there will be something more exciting coming your way real soon. Stay tuned!” it announced on its website.
According to its FAQ, the app would be removed from the Google Playstore on the date.
Users’ card account info stored on the app would also be deactivated and deleted by the bank.
Maybank suggested users can instead use the Samsung Pay app or the Maybank2u app’s QRPay feature to continue making contactless payments.
“For other Android phones, we are currently exploring other payment options to bring better service for customers in the future, please stay tuned,” it said.
