Massive fire destroys 80 per cent of Puchong frozen food factory

KUALA LUMPUR: A fire destroyed about 80 per cent of a frozen food factory in Puchong early this morning, but no injuries were reported.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the department received an emergency call at 6.14am reporting a blaze at the factory along Jalan Utama 2/18, Taman Perindustrian Maju Jaya.

"A fire engine from the Puchong Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 6.24am, approximately six kilometres away.

“The fire involved a frozen food factory building measuring about 40 by 80 metres, classified as a Class B structure,” he said.

Ahmad Mukhlis said the fire spread rapidly, destroying an estimated 80 per cent of the premises. Firefighting operations are still ongoing.

A total of 32 firefighters were deployed, including three fire engines, two emergency medical rescue service units, two water tankers, an aerial ladder platform and a Hilux support vehicle.

“The operation is being led by operations commander Norisham Yusoff, with the Puchong station supported by teams from Penchala, Cyberjaya and Petaling Jaya,” he added.

Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed there were no casualties, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
