Man arrested over Puchong abduction

Police say the incident was likely motivated by unresolved debt, and that three other suspects remain at large.

PETALING JAYA: A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the abduction of another man along Persiaran Puchong Permai in an incident that was caught on video and widely shared on social media.

Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the suspect was picked up by officers at the roadside on Jalan SS19 at about 10pm yesterday based on tip-offs received.

“An investigation revealed that the suspect has a record for two criminal offences,” Harian Metro quoted him as saying in a statement today, adding that he also has gang-related tattoos.

“He has been remanded for four days starting today.”

Wan Azlan said the abduction is believed to be linked to unresolved debt, and that police are tracking down three other suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.

The 15-second video, believed to have been recorded by a passerby, shows a man being dragged and forced into a lorry by three individuals before speeding off.
