The proposed sale of land near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve has sparked growing concern, with Wong Chen criticising the Selangor government for its lack of response on the issue.
Wong revealed that he had sent three formal letters since December seeking clarification on the sale of approximately 68.4 hectares of land in the Kinrara area, but has yet to receive any official reply. The land, reportedly linked to development plans by a private company, has drawn strong opposition from residents, with more than 7,500 complaints submitted.
He stressed that the concern is not about opposing development, but rather the lack of transparency surrounding the deal, including details on pricing, purpose, and long-term impact. Safety was also highlighted as a key issue, with parts of the land described as steep and potentially hazardous for future housing projects.
Calls have been made for the state government to reconsider the sale, including proposals to buy back portions of the land and restore it as protected green space. Residents have echoed similar sentiments, urging authorities to prioritise environmental preservation and community safety.
Meanwhile, state officials have clarified that the land was de-gazetted from forest reserve status decades ago and that no official development applications have been submitted so far. The matter is expected to be raised further in the upcoming Selangor state assembly sitting.
