SHAH ALAM, May 22 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) said it will use transparent lorries for the Selangor Recycling Programme (SELKitar).
Its managing director Dato’ Ramli Tahir said this is to differentiate vehicles carrying general waste from recyclables.
“For now, we have two (transparent) lorries through a programme with Nestle Malaysia, and are planning to buy 12 more,” he told Media Selangor .
Ramli added that 2,184kg of recyclables were collected during SELKitar’s first week in Subang Jaya and Sepang, with great response from residents who were generally appreciative of the programme.
“This programme was implemented to up the state’s recycling percentage to 15 per cent from last year’s 8 per cent, in line with the First Selangor Plan.
“We are targeting 40,000 fenced homes (for recyclables collection) under the jurisdiction of the Subang Jaya City Council and Sepang Municipal Council,” he said.

In April, the state government through KDEBWM signed a deal with Nestle Malaysia to empower recycling efforts with home collection.
At the signing ceremony, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the deal was an initial step under the state government’s initiative, which was announced during the tabling of the 2025 Selangor State Budget.
Amirudin said the strategic collaboration also aligns with moves outlined in the 2025 Selangor State Budget to reduce waste and lower dependence on landfills.
Conditions for SELKitar are as follows:
- Sort recyclables by type (plastic, paper, tin, cardboard, drink cartons)
- Wash and dry items
- Put recyclables in boxes or plastic bags
- Put them outside on collection days
