Huawei Nova 9 Malaysia: Everything you need to know

The Huawei Nova 9 has officially arrived in Malaysia and this is their latest flagship smartphone under the Nova series. Pre-orders are now available and Huawei Malaysia is bundling freebies worth up to RM829.

The Huawei Nova 9 with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage is officially priced at RM1,999 in Malaysia. Interestingly, it is the same price as the Honor 50 with the same RAM and storage configuration. The Nova 9 is available in two colours – Starry Blue and Black, and you can purchase it on the Huawei online store as well as Lazada and Shopee.

The device is now available for pre-order from 8th until 19th November 2021 and you’ll get a Huawei FreeBuds Pro worth RM699 and complimentary gifts from Huawei Mobile Services worth RM130. New users will get 1-month 50GB cloud storage, 1-month trial for Huawei Video+ Unlimited Pass, 3 months trial for Huawei Music Premium, book credits on Huawei Books, In-game gift packs on Huawei AppGallery and 30% off for selected Huawei Themes. For existing Huawei services users who have signed up for the free trial previously can get 50GB cloud storage for RM1 or 200GB for RM3 for the first month, one month Huawei Video+ unlimited Pass for RM1, two months Huawei Music Premium for RM1/month, 30% off selected Huawei Themes and Free in-game gift pack on Huawei AppGallery.

On top of that, buyers can redeem a 15% off voucher for Hungry and RM5 off voucher for Caring Pharmacy from the Huawei Member Centre app.

Huawei Nova 9 specs

The Huawei Nova 9 features a 6.57″ Full HD+ OLED display that comes with dual-curved edges. It boasts a high 120Hz fresh rate for a fluid visual experience and a 300Hz touch sampling rate for better touch response. Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chip but it only supports up to 4G connectivity. For Malaysia, the device comes in a single configuration with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage which isn’t expandable.

For taking pictures, the Nova 9 gets a quad-camera setup featuring a 50MP that uses a 1/1.56″ RYYB sensor and XD Fusion for better performance in low light situations. It also gets an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and two 2MP cameras for depth and macro shots. For selfies, the tiny punch-hole on the display houses a 32MP selfie camera.

The device can shoot 4K 30fps videos for front and back cameras and they have also included several features for vlogging. This includes dual-view where users can record from both front and back cameras simultaneously.

Powering the device is a 4,300mAh battery and it supports 66W SuperCharge technology via USB-C. According to Huawei, you can get a full charge in just 38 minutes. Out of the box, it runs on EMUI 12 based on Android 11 with Huawei Mobile Services. Unlike the recently announced Honor 50, Google apps and services are not included, so you’ll have to discover apps via the Huawei AppGallery.
