Malaysians are increasingly turning to solar energy to cut electricity costs while embracing sustainability. With installation costs dropping and government incentives like the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme, solar adoption is steadily growing.
Homeowners now have more affordable options to install solar systems, supported by declining panel prices, accessible financing, and heightened interest in renewable energy. The NEM scheme enables households to generate their own solar power, reducing dependency on Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), and even allows them to sell excess energy back to the grid for credits.
For instance, Abdul Wahid completed his solar panel installation in just one day. Using a mobile app, he tracks the system’s efficiency and cleanliness. Another homeowner, Jeffrey Chou from Damansara, turned to solar energy after facing high electricity bills due to a fish pond and multiple air conditioners.
Solar power offers long-term savings, with many users recovering their investment within 5 to 8 years. Emerging technologies like energy storage solutions and peer-to-peer energy trading make the transition to solar even more attractive.
Malaysia’s growing embrace of solar energy highlights a promising move toward sustainable living, providing both environmental benefits and financial savings.
