Smart Farming Boosts Durian Yields in Malaysia ![]()
Tan Han Wei, founder of Sustainable Hrvest a smart farming solutions company based in Puchong, Selangor is helping Malaysian durian farmers improve their harvests with the power of smart sensors and 5G technology.
Many farmers used to rely on guesswork to manage their crops, unsure why some parts of their farms produced better durians than others. Without accurate data, they often overwatered or added too much fertilizer, leading to uneven results.
To solve this, Tan, a former R&D engineer, introduced soil sensors that track moisture and nutrient levels around selected trees. The data is uploaded to the cloud for detailed analysis. Over time, the information helps farmers spot problems like waterlogging and excess moisture which both harmful to durian roots and overall tree health.
By combining technology and agriculture, Tan aims to make durian farming more efficient, sustainable, and profitable for the long run. ![]()
