Foreigner arrested for allegedly killing woman out of jealousy

Police say the Bangladeshi suspect, aged 23, confessed to having committed the murder at a hotel in Puchong last Tuesday.

A third suspect has been arrested to aid an investigation into the alleged murder of a foreign woman at a hotel at Taman Mawar, Puchong, on Dec 31.

Serdang police chief AA Anbalagan said the suspect, a 23-year-old Bangladeshi construction worker, was apprehended in Putrajaya at 4.30pm yesterday, Bernama reported.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was an acquaintance of the victim and confessed to committing the murder out of jealousy,” he said in a statement today.

The suspect has been remanded until Jan 10.

He said the case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or a minimum imprisonment of 30 years with up to 12 strokes of the rotan upon conviction.

On Wednesday morning, police arrested two foreigners after a worker at the budget hotel lodged a report following the discovery of the Indonesian woman’s body at 10.15pm the day before.

Anbalagan was reported to have said the two men, both aged 39, had been remanded until Jan 6 to facilitate the investigation.

He said a post-mortem will be conducted at Serdang Hospital to ascertain the cause of death.
