The Malaysian government has announced an increase in the FLYsiswa flight ticket subsidy from RM300 to RM400 per student annually, starting January 1, 2025. Transport Minister Anthony Loke shared this during the FLYsiswa Carnival at UiTM Shah Alam.
This initiative targets IPTA students from Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan studying in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as students from Peninsular Malaysia studying in these regions. The subsidy, totaling nearly RM20 million, aims to reduce the financial burden of long-distance travel.
In addition to the federal subsidy, Sabah and Sarawak state governments will provide an extra RM600, allowing eligible students to receive up to RM1,000 yearly. The subsidy will continue throughout the students’ academic journey.
According to the Higher Education Ministry, over 50,000 students qualify for this assistance, with around 70% having already redeemed it. The government urges students to claim their subsidy by December 31, 2024, for use in the upcoming year.
As an added measure, the government has introduced a price cap on flight fares during festive seasons to further support students.
