PETALING JAYA: Several locations around Selangor are reporting flash floods after continuous heavy rain since 2am on Friday (April 11).
At least 12 homes at Kampung Sungai Merab Luar in Kajang were inundated after continuous heavy rain.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 3.34am.
The operations team found that a flash flood had occurred, reaching a depth of four feet (approximately 1.2 meters), affecting 12 houses.
“A total of 15 victims were successfully evacuated by the operations team,” he said in a statement today.
He added that monitoring showed water levels in the affected area are now receding.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said in a Facebook post issued a warning to motorists of traffic congestion along the Puchong Barat toll due to the flash floods.
“Residents’ vehicles are parked on the left lane at KM S2.6 westbound and at Puchong Barat Toll Plaza (causing obstruction to the two left lanes) due to flash floods in areas adjacent to the expressway.
“Traffic is congested from Puchong Selatan and Puchong Jaya heading towards USJ. Please maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front,” it said.
Several videos and photos of flash floods happening at Taman Mas and other nearby areas in Puchong have also gone viral on social media.
