Fewer Ramadan bazaar sites and lots for 2025 in Subang Jaya

THERE will be fewer Ramadan bazaar sites and trading lots offered by Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) next year compared to this year.

“For 2025, MBSJ will be opening 21 Ramadan bazaar sites with 1,367 trading lots,” said Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.

“The bazaars will be located across five zones under MBSJ’s purview namely six locations in Subang Jaya (277 lots), two in Kinrara (160 lots), seven in Puchong (380 lots), one in Putra Heights (40 lots) and five in Serdang and Seri Kembangan (510 lots).”

For 2024, MBSJ offered 1,560 trading lots at 25 locations. However, only 1,168 vendors took up the available lots.

“All traders are required to provide an alternative payment option using cashless methods.

“MBSJ also will continue implementing several green initiatives at all the 21 Ramadan bazaars,” added Amirul Azizan.

These include banning the use of polystyrene packaging and plastic straws as well as continuing food waste prevention and used cooking oil recycling campaigns.

Amirul Azizan said this when chairing MBSJ’s December full board meeting at the council’s headquarters in USJ5, Subang Jaya.

He also provided an update on the incident where landowners allowed their properties to be used as an illegal dumpsite in 2021 at Bukit Serdang 5, Seri Kembangan.

“On Dec 10, a landowner pleaded guilty to allowing earthworks to be carried out without permission that resulted in the pollution incident.

“The Petaling Jaya Sessions Court judge imposed a fine of RM6,000.

“The prosecution was done under Section 70A(9) of the Streets, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), which carries a maximum penalty of RM50,000 and/or up to five years jail.”

He added that the court has to date convicted three landowners. ― By JADE CHAN
