Econpile Wins RM4.1 Million Court Case Linked to Abandoned Puchong Development

Econpile Holdings Berhad has secured a favourable High Court judgment in a legal dispute involving an abandoned condominium development project in Puchong.

The case involved Econpile’s wholly owned subsidiary, EMSB, which was previously awarded a piling works contract worth RM8.73 million for a condominium and link villa project in Pusat Bandar Puchong back in 2014.

According to the company, the dispute arose after unpaid sums linked to the project led to arbitration proceedings and further legal action. EMSB had earlier obtained awards amounting to millions of ringgit, but later discovered that the developer company involved had already been wound up before the arbitration award was issued.

In its latest ruling, the Kuala Lumpur High Court awarded RM4.1 million in general damages against the developer company and its former director. The court also granted additional exemplary damages of RM500,000 together with interest and legal costs.

The judgment marks another major development in the long-running dispute tied to the abandoned Puchong project. One of the defendants has since filed an appeal against the decision, while an application to delay enforcement of the judgment was dismissed by the High Court.

The case highlights ongoing legal and financial challenges surrounding abandoned property developments and contractor payment disputes in Malaysia’s construction sector.
