PETALING JAYA: Police in Negri Sembilan have arrested two local men and seized 30 packets of Chinese tea containing what is suspected to be methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of RM1.56 million.
State police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the suspects, aged in their 30s, were arrested last Thursday at the 236.9km mark of the North-South Expressway. The duo, a mechanic and a fisherman from Batu Pahat, Johor, were taken into custody after a package weighing approximately 30.6kg was discovered in the boot of their car.
“An inspection of the package revealed a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine,” Alzafny said at the Negri Sembilan police headquarters today, as reported by Bernama.
He added that preliminary investigations and intelligence suggest the drugs were likely collected in Puchong, Selangor. “The syndicate is believed to have been active since last year and is targeting markets in the southern states,” he stated.
Background checks revealed that both suspects have prior criminal records. One individual has two previous drug-related offences, while the other has four. Both men also tested positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
