PUCHONG: The bodies of two people who died in an acetylene gas explosion at an engineering and electrical premises in Taman Perindustrian Puchong Utama here today were not intact.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said rescuers took a few hours to retrieve the remains of the victims.
"The victims’ bodies were not intact, so their remains took more time to retrieve.
“Two others who were injured were given breathing aid and first aid,” he said when met at the scene.
He said one of the injured victims is believed to be the owner of the premises.
“The identities of the two deceased have yet to be confirmed due to the condition of the bodies.”
He said the bodies have been taken to Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem.
He said there were 45 gas tanks at the premises and they were inspected by the Fire and Rescue Department.
“Checks found no leaks among the 45 gas tanks.”
“The premises and the surrounding areas are deemed safe. The premises near the scene of the incident are allowed to operate as usual.”
Asked about the cause of the explosion, he said the Fire and Rescue Department’s forensic team and the police were investigating the scene of the incident.
“A thorough investigation is needed to identify the cause of the incident, including looking into the possibility of a breach of rules.”
Earlier, it was reported that two people died and two others were injured in an acetylene gas explosion in Taman Perindustrian Puchong Utama today.
