Bandar Puchong Jaya morning market traders relocated for road repairs

JALAN Merak 2 in Bandar Puchong Jaya, Selangor, is closed until Oct 19 to make way for road upgrades.

Pasar Pagi Merak will also be temporarily relocated to nearby roads during this time.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Zone 10 councillor Ng Seow Chan said the upgrading works were to repair potholes and uneven surfaces.

“The traders will be moved to Jalan Merak 2A and Jalan Merak 4A during the four-month period.

“Both roads will be closed off to accommodate the temporary market site,” she said.

Ng added that the road repair project with an allocation of RM599,210 was to create a safer and more comfortable space for traders and market-goers

“Once completed, the area will have better traffic flow and a more organised layout.

“The new market site at Jalan Merak 2 will also feature interlocking floor bricks that will provide a more stable and even surface for traders and customers alike,” she added.

Ng said road patching works would be carried out at Jalan Merak 2A and Jalan Merak 4A and nearby roads after the market returns to its original site.

Pasar Pagi Merak currently has 126 traders who operate daily from 6am to noon.

Its association secretary Vicki Wong said the upgrades were timely as traders and customers have had falls because of the poor road surface.

“On average, two people fall every month,” she said, adding that her mother, a long-time trader at the market, was still receiving treatment after a fall.

“The doctor said she’ll need at least six months before she can walk or stand again.

“We’re relieved the issue is finally being addressed,” she said.
