A 33-year-old babysitter has been charged with the murder of a 23-month-old girl in Taman Putra Perdana, a case that has drawn widespread attention and concern among parents.
The accused is alleged to have caused the death of Dhiya Falisha Mustaqim between 9.31am and 11.24am on May 18 at an apartment unit in the area where the child was under her care.
She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The charge was read before the Magistrate’s Court in Sepang, but no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The tragic case has sparked discussions on child safety and the importance of ensuring proper supervision and care for young children. The court has set July 14 for the next mention of the case as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
