More than 500 anglers convened for a “fishy” time at Taman Tasik Sri Aman in Puchong, Selangor, in conjunction with Subang Jaya City Council’s (MBSJ) fifth anniversary and National Month celebrations.
The participants vied for prizes totalling RM19,700 in “Cabaran Joran Merdeka MBSJ 2025”, with the annual competition now in its third edition.
Organised in collaboration with Nadi Media Events and Zon 12 Residents Representative Council (MPP), the programme aimed to promote unity, encourage healthy outdoor recreation and position Taman Tasik Sri Aman as a community tourism destination, the city council said in a media statement.
In the run-up to the event, MBSJ said, nearly 300kg of fish was released comprising a variety of species including baung and lampam sungai, weighing between 800gm and 2kg each.
Participants also had the lake’s existing fish stock, including ikan bandaraya, patin, keli, tilapia, haruan and toman to target, providing a challenging experience for seasoned anglers.
The winning catch was a 0.75kg ikan bandaraya, followed by a 0.64kg tilapia in second place and another ikan bandaraya weighing 0.58kg in third.
The event also featured a lucky draw with a motorcycle as its grand prize, while 200 early bird entrants nabbed exclusive T-shirts.
On the sidelines of the competition, MPP Zone 12 rolled out a series of activities for the community, such as a penalty kick contest at MBSJ Kampung Seri Aman football field, Subuh Macam Jumaat programme at Masjid Kampung Seri Aman and a community sales carnival to support local entrepreneurs.
MBSJ said it remained committed to organising initiatives to promote a healthy lifestyle, strengthen community bonds and enhance recreational areas to make them attractive domestic tourism spots, in line with its vision of making Subang Jaya a sustainable and liveable city.
Present at the event were Sri Serdang assemblyman Abbas Salimmi Che Adzmi, Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali and MBSJ Engineering Department director Dr Mohd Ariffuddin Kamari. — By MEGAT SHAHAR
