A lorry tyre detached off SKVE, smashing Proton Satria

SEPANG, Jan 12: A vehicle was damaged after being hit by a tyre that detached from a tipper lorry along Jalan Kajang–Puchong on the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) on Saturday night.

Sepang district police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said the incident took place at about 8pm when the lorry was travelling from Kajang towards Puchong, Selangor. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary findings showed that the lorry’s left rear tyre burst and became dislodged, falling from the flyover and striking the roof of a black Proton Satria Neo, causing damage to the car, he said in a statement yesterday.

Norhizam added that both drivers, aged in their 20s and 30s, had lodged police reports at the Sepang District Police Headquarters and were confirmed to hold valid driving licences.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.

He also advised the public against speculating on the incident as it may affect the investigation, and urged anyone with relevant information to contact the investigating officer, Insp Nurul Sakela Ramli, at 019-558 8221 or 03-8777 4264.
