62 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in OP Mahir Operation

A large-scale enforcement operation, Op Mahir, conducted by the Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia has led to the arrest of 62 foreign nationals in Puchong and Shah Alam.

According to Immigration director-general Zakaria Shaaban, the operation uncovered misuse of the Temporary Employment Visit Pass, where individuals were found working under permits registered to different employers. This tactic is believed to be part of a broader attempt to bypass immigration regulations, potentially involving non-compliant employers.

Authorities inspected two premises involving 112 individuals, resulting in the detention of 62 undocumented migrants. Those arrested included 56 Bangladeshis, four Nepalese, and one each from India and Indonesia. Offences identified ranged from not possessing valid identification documents to overstaying and misuse of permits.

The detainees have been placed at immigration depots in Semenyih and KLIA for further processing. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities not ruling out the possibility of a larger network behind these activities.

The operation involved 66 immigration officers, supported by personnel from the National Registration Department, and focused on high-risk sectors such as industrial and logistics operations.
