A total of 45 individuals, including five foreign nationals, were detained by the Selangor Forestry Department (JPNS) for allegedly trespassing into the Ayer Hitam Permanent Forest Reserve in Puchong during a recent enforcement operation.
The operation, known as Op Jejak, was conducted with assistance from the police and targeted individuals entering the protected forest area without the required permits. Authorities found that those detained were involved in recreational activities such as hiking and river bathing within the reserve.
According to officials, the group consisted of 38 men and seven women. All individuals were brought to the Serdang District Police Headquarters for documentation and further investigation by JPNS.
The case is being investigated under Section 47 of the National Forestry Act 1985 (Adoption Enactment), which governs offences involving unauthorized entry into permanent forest reserves.
JPNS reminded outdoor enthusiasts that permits are required before entering protected forest areas and urged the public to carry out recreational activities only at approved hiking and nature destinations. The department stressed that these regulations are in place to protect forest ecosystems, preserve biodiversity, and ensure visitor safety.
The enforcement action serves as a reminder that unauthorized access to protected forest reserves can result in legal action, even when the visit is intended for recreational purposes.
