18 cars crushed by three 12m trees following thunderstorm, no death reported

CYBERJAYA: Eighteen cars parked at the Cyber Valley parking area were crushed by three 12m-tall trees which fell following thunderstorms, here, today.

Cyberjaya fire station operations head Zainuddin Mohd Yasin said 14 firefighters were deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 5.27pm.

He said the team started work to cut and remove the trees after arriving at the scene nine minutes later.

He said no casualties were reported in the incident.

“The 5pm thunderstorms uprooted the trees which later crushed the cars parked in the area,” he said.

Zainuddin said a multipurpose vehicle was completely destroyed in the incident.

He said the team was currently clearing the tree branches that were obstructing traffic, adding that the operation is expected to end at 10pm.

He added that the Sepang Municipal Council Quick Response team is assisting the Fire and Rescue Department.
