KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has detained 101 foreigners in two separate raids — one at a recycling factory in Shah Alam and another at an entertainment centre in Puchong.

Its director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the first raid occurred at 2.35pm on Aug 26 in an industrial area of Shah Alam, where 53 people were inspected.

“A total of 36 Bangladeshis, aged between 35 and 50, were detained on suspicion of offences under the Immigration Act and Immigration Regulations,” he said in a statement.

He added that a Bangladeshi man holding a valid Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) pass was also investigated under suspicious circumstances.

“All foreigners were placed at the Lenggeng Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation and action,” he said.

Later that evening, at 9.15pm, the department raided a three-storey karaoke and entertainment centre in Puchong.

“A total of 187 individuals were checked. Following inspections, 65 were detained, including 16 Myanmar men, 18 Thai women, 17 Vietnamese women, two Indonesian women, six Laotian women, and four Filipino women,” he said.

The centre was found to be offering foreign women as “companions” to customers between 7pm and 3am daily.

“They were offered to customers at rates of RM150 to RM300 for the first three hours. During the raid, many were observed entertaining local patrons,” Zakaria added.

Those arrested were sent to the KLIA Immigration Depot, while the premises’ owner will face charges under Section 55E of the Immigration Act for harbouring illegal immigrants.

“The Immigration Department will not compromise on foreigners staying illegally, overstaying, or misusing passes in this country. Firm action will be taken against anyone employing or harbouring illegal immigrants,” Zakaria stressed.
