A recent fatal incident at Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT Station has prompted the Malaysian government to take urgent steps to improve rail safety nationwide. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that platform guard rails will be installed at all train stations to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The decision comes after a man in his 60s tragically lost his life after falling onto the tracks at the station. Emergency responders found the victim unconscious beneath a train carriage, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, train services across several stations on the Ampang Line were temporarily disrupted, affecting commuters traveling through key Puchong routes. Authorities have since confirmed that CCTV footage will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
While newer MRT stations and the Kuala Lumpur Monorail already have guard rail systems in place, many older stations, especially along the Ampang Line, still lack these safety features. The government has now made it a priority to implement them, although the rollout will depend on budget allocation and planning by Prasarana Malaysia.
This move is seen as a crucial step toward enhancing commuter safety and preventing further tragedies across Malaysia’s rail network.
