Pintasan Saloma Water Surge: SAR for Missing Man Continues with Foot Patrols

KUALA LUMPUR: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a man swept away by strong currents in Sungai Klang on Monday (Nov 17) continued on Thursday (Nov 20) using a 26km foot-patrol method from the Masjid Jamek junction to Kampung Tengah, Puchong.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said the operation, now in its fourth day, began at 8am and involved 13 teams, each combing up to 2km of riverbank towards the trash trap area in Kampung Tengah, Puchong.

The operation involved about 200 personnel, including 120 officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), 60 from the Fire and Rescue Department, and members from Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Civil Defence Force, and the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS).

“This approach was taken because water levels were high on the day of the incident, which may have caused the victim to become stuck along the riverbank. However, the victim has yet to be found and SAR efforts are ongoing,” Sazalee said at the scene on Thursday.

Thursday’s SAR efforts also deployed four boats, several kayaks, drones, a diving unit and two K9 detection dogs from PDRM and the Fire and Rescue Department.

He added that the operation would continue until 7pm and, if the victim is still not found, would resume on Friday (Nov 21) morning.

“Thus far, no new clues have been found that could assist in locating the victim,” he said.

In the 5.40pm incident on Monday, the victim, identified as K. Suresh, 37, a local resident and construction site supervisor, was among 12 construction workers trapped under a bridge. The other workers were successfully rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department. – Bernama
