PETALING JAYA: Over 850 areas in the Klang Valley will experience low water pressure and unstable water supply following a brief shutdown of four water treatment plants at Sungai Selangor.
“A total of 861 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/ Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Langat will experience low water pressure and unstable water supply.
“Affected consumers are expected to receive a stable supply of water in stages starting 3pm today (Dec 8), ” Air Selangor said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 8).
It said this was because the water distribution system was in an unstable condition, wherein many water tanks in residential areas had a steep decrease in water levels early this morning.
Air Selangor also said it will mobilise water tankers to affected areas, with priority given to premises with critical needs, such as hospitals and dialysis centres.
“Air Selangor understands the need for consumers to have clean water, especially with the rise in Covid-19 cases and with the implementation of the condition movement control order.
“We will make every effort to minimise the impact of the disruption towards affected consumers, ” it said.
Information on the unscheduled water cuts will be updated from time to time on Air Selangor’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram accounts, its app and its website.
Earlier, Air Selangor said the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant stopped operations at 11.30pm on Monday (Dec 7) while Phases 1,2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor water treatment plants had to stop at 1am Tuesday.
In a Facebook post Tuesday morning, Air Selangor had said the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant had started operating at 3.30am, while Phases 1,2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor water treatment plant were back in action at 5am after recording three consecutive readings of 0 TON (Threshold Odour Number).
“The water treatment plants were closed following raw water pollution detected in Sungai Selangor, ” Air Selangor had said.
